Professional Business Talk
Target Group
Employees of the WU with advanced English skills (level B2-C1 according to the Common European Frame of Reference for Languages; you can find a guideline for self-evaluation on http://www.wu.ac.at/structure/servicecenters/pep/ERFL.pdf) who would like to refine and apply their English in professional settings on a regular basis.
Workshop Goals
In view of the increasing internationalisation at WU, it is not only important to be able to communicate the position held and the related duties in English, but also to talk about business and economic issues which cannot be directly associated with a particular job.
Workshop Content
- Vocabulary covering a wide range of topics
- Advanced-level grammar
- Text comprehension
- Advanced Writing Skills
- Oral communication: conversations, discussions, arguing a case
- Exploring selected business and economic issues with emphasis on the following topics:
- Marketing
- Securities Market
- Globalisation
- Business Ethics
- Mergers
On the basis of texts and up-to-date news coverage, we will identify and contextualise the relevant technical terms and analyse the interdependencies of the various subject areas. Participants are invited to give presentations and take part in discussions, simulated meetings and negotiations.

All registered participants will be informed of the location by email one week before the event.
Fees and Registration
This workshop is open to a limited number of participants. The registration deadline is 20 February 2015.
Please note that you should notify us before the registration deadline if you are unable to attend the workshop. Otherwise the full fee will be charged.Please let the Personnel Development and Planning Office know if you will not be attending. There are often waiting lists for the workshops, and this will give one of your colleagues the chance to attend. In addition, if we can fill the vacancy with someone from the waiting list, no cancellation charges will apply for you.
