Academic Writing: A Crash Course for Law Faculty

Writing up your research can be a daunting prospect, especially if English is not your native language. There are bound to be lots of questions – some related to content, some to language, and some located at the intersection of the two. For example:

•    How should a good abstract be structured?
•    What information should the introduction to a paper typically include?
•    What can I do to capture readers' attention and to make their reading experience more enjoyable?

Using examples from law journals and books, we will discuss key issues related to grammar, rhetoric and argumentation.

Target Group

This intensive course is aimed at faculty from law departments who are preparing English publications, or intend to do so in the near future, and would like to practice and perfect their English language skills. No prior experience in academic writing is assumed.
